There were three separate issues going on:ġ) By default, Realtek audio drivers don't support Dolby Digital or DTS Live over opticalĢ) Also by default, Windows 10 doesn't support Dolby Digital or DTS Live over opticalģ) Audio for Fallout 4 is encoded with the Xaudio 2 API, which, in a separate issue from (2), defaults to stereo when outputting to a setup that only supports one of the aforementioned compressed audio formats. This caused me all sorts of headache, as I was not getting Dolby Digital surround sound like I was supposed to with this setup for Fallout 4, or any other games for that matter. I'm running Windows 10, with an audio setup consisting of on-board audio delivered digitally over an optical cable to an audio/video receiver. I want to share a story of mine that may help others in search of knowledge.
